Aluminum trailer manufacturer to open site in Dawson Springs, create 50 jobs

Investing $1.55 million in project

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Dec. 1, 2016) — Wink Equipment Inc. will invest $1.55 million in an aluminum trailer manufacturing operation in Dawson Springs that will create 50 full-time jobs.

The 69,000-square-foot facility will be the site of construction of 400 to 600 aluminum side-dump trailers per year. Production is scheduled to begin in 2017.

Side-dump trailers are in high demand in a variety of industries, especially for use regions where narrow mountain roads and high winds threaten the usability of traditional 50-foot frameless dump trailers. By manufacturing in high-strength aluminum, Wink says its trailers weigh up to two tons less than their steel counterparts, offering truckers better fuel economy.

To encourage the investment and job growth in the community, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) in October preliminarily approved the company for tax incentives up to $480,000 through the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based incentive allows a company to keep a portion of its investment over the agreement term through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets.

Wink also can receive resources from the Kentucky Skills Network. Through the Kentucky Skills Network, companies can receive no-cost recruitment and job placement services, reduced-cost customized training and job training incentives. In fiscal 2016, the Kentucky Skills Network provided training for nearly 95,000 Kentuckians and 5,000 companies from a variety of industry sectors.
