These are just a few of the topics and questions which will be addressed on Tuesday, Feb. 7, as the University of Kentucky hosts its 28th Annual Economic Outlook Conference “What’s Next for Kentucky in the Global Economy?” in downtown Lexington.

The event is hosted by UK’s Gatton College of Business and Economics’ Don and Cathy Jacobs Executive Education Center, along with the Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER). Commerce Lexington and The Lane Report are serving as presenting sponsors, and the Lexington-Bluegrass Association of Realtors, is a partner sponsor this year.

The Lexington Convention Center is the event site with check-in and continental breakfast from 8-8:30 a.m., and the conference itself from 8:30-noon.

Expert speakers and presenters include:

• Mark E. Schweitzer, senior vice president of external outreach and regional analytics for the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. Schweitzer’s talk is titled “National Economic Outlook and Monetary Policy.”

• Christopher R. Bollinger, director of CBER and Gatton Endowed Professor of Economics in the Gatton College. Bollinger will speak on the “Economic Outlook for 2017: National and Local Relationships.”

• Gatton College Economics Professor Ana Maria Herrera will address “Effects of Oil Price Shocks on Kentucky.”

• Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky President and CEO Ben Chandler will speak on the topic, “Kentucky Health: Moving the Needle.”

“This annual conference is a tremendous opportunity for business leaders and other interested citizens to hear from experts on a range of issues impacting our economy,” said David W. Blackwell, dean of the Gatton College. “Anyone who attends is sure to find the presentations timely, compelling and extremely informative.”

Audience participation will be an important part of the event in the form of a speaker panel Q & A following the presentations.
