State archery tournament draws record 6,071 students

295 schools represented

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 5, 2017) — A record 6,071 students from 295 schools competed at the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Kentucky state tournament April 1 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville.

Trigg County High School won the team title, its fifth in the past six years of the tournament. Madison Central High School finished second and Lafayette High School third.

Pulaski Northern Middle School and Morgantown Elementary School won for elementary and middle schools.

After practice rounds, each competitor shot 15 arrows from 10 meters and 15 arrows from 15 meters for a total possible score of 300 points.

Lincoln County High School junior Roby Mullins won the boys’ title with a score of 298. Hancock County High School sophomore Kayla Woodward won the girls’ overall title with a score of 296.

The top 10 seniors in the boys’ and girls’ divisions received $1,000 scholarships to apply to any post-secondary education.

The 2017 NASP Nationals are May 11-13 at the Kentucky Exposition Center.
