Utility work to stop traffic next week on Mountain Parkway

Scheduled for Tuesday

SALYERSVILLE, Ky. (April 12, 2017) — Motorists should be prepared for brief traffic stoppages on the Mountain Parkway — just east of the KY 205-Helechewa interchange — on April 18, as crews relocate telephone lines ahead of roadway construction.

Crews expect to stop traffic four times between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., to pull cables across the parkway. Most stoppages are expected to last 5 to 20 minutes, but each stoppage could last for up to 30 minutes.

“If you have to travel this section of the parkway on Tuesday, you should allow extra time to reach your destination, or find an alternative route,” said Marshall Carrier, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s project manager for the Mountain Parkway Expansion. “We truly appreciate your patience as we work to improve the Mountain Parkway.”

The utility relocation is part of the Morgan County segment of the Mountain Parkway Expansion project, which covers 8.2 miles in Wolfe, Morgan and Magoffin counties.

The improvements include:

  • Widening the parkway to four lanes between mile points 56 and 65.
  • Improving and modernizing the Lee City/West Liberty interchange (Exit 57).
  • Improving the KY 134 interchange (Exit 60).
  • Reconstructing and eliminating an “S” curve near the Morgan/Magoffin county line.
