Lexington realtor for 30 years

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 19, 2017) — Mayor Jim Gray today named Joseph M. Smith the new councilmember for the 2nd District.

170519JoeSmith3712 (2)Smith has worked as a realtor for 30 years in Lexington. He also spent 10 years in banking. He is past president of the Townley Park Homeowners Association; a former member of the Board of Trustees of Lexington Catholic High School, his alma mater; and a member of the Lexington Jaycees and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass. He has served as a member of the city’s Planning Commission and on the Lyric Task Force Committee.

“Joe is well prepared to be a councilmember,” said Gray. “He has been active in his neighborhood, in public service and is a Lexington native who cares about his hometown. He brings energy and experience to the Second District seat.”

Smith replaces Sasha Love Higgins, who resigned April 27. The Urban County Council now has a 15-day window should it decide to overturn the appointment.
