Current nursing program coordinator retiring
CUMBERLAND, Ky. (June 26, 2017) — Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College President Vic Adams announced that Joy Pennington has been appointed to serve as the nursing program coordinator and Dr. Joel Michaelis will serve as chief academic officer (CAO).
Pennington replaces Kathy Guyn, who will retire at the end of June. Pennington begins July 1.
Pennington is a 2003 graduate of the SKCTC nursing program. She holds a BSN degree as well as a MSN in Nursing Education from Chamberlin College of Nursing. She has worked as a nurse for 14 years. Pennington has been a nursing educator at Southeast since 2009.
“I am humbled and honored to be able to continue to serve our students and our communities in my new position,” said Pennington. “I am very proud of the fact that I am a Southeast graduate. I look forward to working under our new administration and leading a program that is such an integral part of our institution.”
Michaelis earned an Ed.D. in educational administration from Baylor University, a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Texas, and a B.B.A. in management from Texas A&M University. He currently serves as the Dean of Navarro College South Campus in Waco, Texas.
“I’m excited to be part of the Southeast family and look forward to working with the faculty and staff, as well as Dr. Adams and the administrative team,” Michaelis said. “Southeast is clearly an integral part of the communities in which it serves. I feel fortunate to be joining a college culture that strives to meet the needs of the community and its citizens.”
He begins July 16.
