Sullivan College of Technology and Design to open new advanced manufacturing center

Partnership with Haas Factory Outlet

pastedImageLOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 5, 2017) — The Sullivan College of Technology and Design (SCTD) and Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) have partnered to open a new Haas Technical Education Center (HTEC) at SCTD’s Louisville campus focused on promoting careers and offering skills training in CNC machining.

HTEC offers hands-on training on Haas CNC, or Computer Numerical Control, machine tools. Unlike machinery that is controlled by hand, CNC machines are fully-automated machine tools that are programmed to perform advanced manufacturing tasks.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the mean hourly wage for a CNC machinist is $20.78. More experienced machinists can make $50,000 to $60,000 a year.

CNC training presents tremendous opportunities for programmers and machinists, said Phil Haming of Haas Factory Outlet Midwest, a distributor of Haas CNC machine tools and rotary products.

Chris Ernst, executive director at SCTD, said that SCTD will offer short-term training with the ability to customize training for area employers looking to enhance the skills of their employees.
