FRANKFORT, Ky. (Aug. 1, 2017) — Jeremy Mattox, of Georgetown, has been appointed by Gov. Bevin as the 14th Judicial Circuit Judge, Division 1, serving Bourbon, Scott and Woodford counties. He will replace Judge Rob Johnson, who was recently appointed to the Kentucky Court of Appeals.
Mattox is a graduate of Harrison County High School and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History from Georgetown College. He also earned a Juris Doctorate from the University Kentucky College of Law in 2006 and has most recently been a private practice attorney in Georgetown, Kentucky.
“I am honored by this opportunity to serve the citizens of Bourbon, Scott and Woodford Counties and am grateful to Governor Bevin and the Judicial Nominating Commission for selecting me,” said Mr. Mattox. “The 14th Judicial Circuit is my home and as judge I will do all that is possible to help support our community as we continue to face the negative effects of opioid drug proliferation.”
During his career, Mr. Mattox has practiced law almost exclusively in central Kentucky, representing clients in a variety of civil, criminal and domestic matters. Additionally, he has been involved in a number of civic organizations, including the Georgetown-Scott County Chamber of Commerce and the Kentucky Justice Association. Jeremy resides with his wife, Melissa Coombs Mattox, in Georgetown.
This appointment will take effect on August 25, and Mattox shall serve until the position is filled in accordance with the results of the November 2018 midterm election, pursuant to the provisions of Section 152 of the Kentucky Constitution.
Vacancies in the office of a judge of the Circuit Court are filled by the Governor from a list of three names submitted by the appropriate Judicial Nominating Commission.
