Memorial for governor’s chief of staff Mike Haydon set for Wednesday in Capitol Rotunda

Mike Haydon, who was Gov. Steve Beshear’s Chief of Staff, died unexpectedly Sunday. Avisitation and memorial will be conducted in the Capitol Rotunda on Wednesday afternoon.

FRANKFORT, Ky.  (Aug. 13, 2012) – A visitation and memorial for Gov. Steve Beshear’s chief of staff, Mike Haydon, will be conducted Wednesday afternoon in the Capitol Rotunda. Haydon passed away unexpectedly on Sunday at his home in Springfield.

“After talking with Mike’s family, we felt it was appropriate to hold a memorial here in the Capitol, where Mike had spent so many years working for the people of our state,” Beshear said. “This was truly his home away from home, and there are many people who will want to pay their respects to our good friend. We miss him terribly already.”

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 15, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Rotunda, with a memorial service beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Another visitation will be conducted at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home at 221 East Main Street in Springfield from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Dominic Church in Springfield, but because of the small size of the church, friends are encouraged to pay respects at the visitations if possible.

Haydon spent more than 30 years in public service at both the state and local level, including positions as chief of staff for House Majority Floor Leader Rocky Adkins, deputy secretary of the Governor’s Executive Cabinet under former Gov. Paul Patton, secretary of the Revenue Cabinet and commissioner of the Department of Property Valuation. He also served as Mayor of Springfield, Ky.
