FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 21, 2012) — Drivers are urged to use extra caution for the next several weeks while driving near the Kentucky Military History Museum on East Main Street (U.S. 60) in downtown Frankfort.
One eastbound traffic lane and the sidewalk adjacent to the museum will be closed daily from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., beginning Monday, Sept. 24, to allow for removal of a concrete retaining wall. One lane will remain open to traffic. The project is expected to last for approximately 60 days, depending on weather.
Removal of the retaining wall is part of a $2 million renovation of the museum, which is housed in the old State Arsenal. The project is to be completed in 2013. Funding has been provided by the Kentucky Department of Military Affairs, the Kentucky Historical Society Foundation and the Kentucky Veterans Program Trust Fund. The goal of this multiphase project is to restore the building as nearly as possible to its original appearance.
