LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 26, 2012) — The University of Louisville’s College of Business is giving six of its most successful graduates an unprecedented honor—one that literally will be carved in stone.
The six UofL alumni are the first to be inducted into the Entrepreneurship Circle of Fame, a project created by the college’s Board of Advisors to permanently recognize the accomplishments of “our business innovation champions,” said Charles Moyer, the college’s dean.
Names of the honorees are being carved onto granite slabs inside the Jane Goldstein Plaza, a newly renovated circle in front of Harry Frazier Hall, the building that houses the college. They are:
– Stewart Cobb, a 1956 graduate who started in the hardwood veneer business in 1960, later creating Cobb Wood Products and Lamnitops Inc. and founding Midwest Veneers.
– Tom Davidson, a 1962 graduate who started a variety of successful businesses such as Datatel Inc., Invision Medical Inc. and The Balance Bar Company.
– Terry Forcht, a 1959 graduate who leads The Forcht Group of Kentucky and owns 92 enterprises, including nine nursing homes, nine banks and 13 finance companies.
– David Jones, a 1954 graduate who co-founded Humana and served as its chief executive officer for 44 years.
– James Patterson, a 1955 graduate who began his career in 1959 as a franchisee of Jerry’s restaurants, later founding Long John Silver’s and Rally’s.
– Dan Ulmer, a 1955 graduate who is chairman of the Louisville Bats AAA baseball team and former president and chairman of PNC Bank.
The college has invited some 400 business and community leaders to the induction ceremony in Goldstein Plaza Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m., but the event is open to everyone, Moyer said.
“We want to see these remarkable people get the recognition they deserve and we hope that their entrepreneurial accomplishments will inspire others,” he added.
