The University of Kentucky Opera Theatre has been presented with a $1 million gift from the William E. Schmidt Foundation. The gift, presented by William E. Schmidt, a native of Irvine, Ky., and his wife, Casiana Schmidt, will be used for the renovation of the UKOT facility, the establishment of a high school vocal competition and to endow UKOT’s touring program with the Lexington Opera Society, which takes opera to schools throughout the commonwealth.
