The University of Louisville has been awarded funding to establish two new research centers, one dedicated to children’s cancer, the other focused on the impact of environmental factors on human health.
Kosair Charities has committed $12 million to create the Kosair Charities Pediatric Cancer Research Center at the University of Louisville’s James Graham Brown Cancer Center. The research center will operate with the specific purpose of developing new drugs that target children’s cancer. Six endowed faculty positions will be created and four pediatric clinical trial fellows will be trained each year, creating one of the largest such training programs in the nation.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded a $4.4 million grant to the University of Louisville to establish the Center for Environmental Genomics and Integrative Biology that will study the interaction between genes and environmental factors that negatively impact human health, whether through disease or through developmental problems.
The center will be one of only 22 NIH-designated environmental health centers nationwide, with acclaimed institutions such as Johns Hopkins, Harvard and University of North Carolina among them.
