LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Aug. 23, 2013) – Greater Louisville Inc. announced the winners of its 2013 Inc.credible Awards at a luncheon on Friday. The Inc.credible Awards program, now in its 13th year, recognizes outstanding small businesses in the Louisville region.
“Small businesses are the lifeblood of our local economy,” said Craig J. Richard, president and CEO of Greater Louisville Inc. “They make up more than 99 percent of all employers and provide jobs to more than half of all private sector workers. This program provides us the opportunity to recognize and celebrate their achievements and their many contributions to our region.”
Entries for the awards are judged by a panel of business leaders, who evaluate their performance on business and civic leadership, community involvement, management practices and overall financial performance.
More than 118 small businesses and organizations applied for this year’s Inc.credible Awards.
Awards were presented in the following eight categories:
The Greening/Sustainability Award is given to a company that excels at producing green products, has a green purpose or utilizes extensive green practices. The 2013 winner is Huber’s Orchard, Winery & Vineyards. This thriving small business combines four generations of growing fruit and vegetables on its family farm with the use of modern technology to ensure that its products are not only good for you, but for the environment as well.
The Inclusion Award recognizes a company that is a champion for diversity, both in its internal operations and in its business practices. The 2013 winner is DBS Interactive, one of the region’s leading full-service web agencies. The company is dedicated to serving the community beyond its walls through employee volunteer projects, pro bono work for non-profits, and programs that cater to the needs of underserved individuals.
The Innovation/Technology Award recognizes a company that best uses technology to advance its productivity, operations and revenue opportunities. The 2013 winner is PGXL Laboratories. PGXL began as a research lab at the University of Louisville. The company’s core business is to adopt advanced medical technologies so they can be applied in real-world practice settings. PGXL’s ability to discover and implement the newest technologies is not only important for the growth of the company, but it has the potential to save lives as well.
The International/Global Award is given to a company that has embraced international commerce and best executes a global business plan. The 2013 winner is Technidyne Corporation, a technology provider of solutions for the pulp, paper and graphic arts industries. Technidyne currently does business in more than 60 countries, providing clients with multi-lingual capabilities, translation services and a global support call center that operates 24/7.
The Health & Wellness Award is given to a company that promotes wellness in the workplace and encourages healthy lifestyles among its employees and customers. The 2013 winner is Strategic Communications. An all-inclusive technology provider focused on serving commercial and government customers, Strategic Communications operates with the philosophy that in order to best take care of their clients, it must take care of its employees too. The company provides an onsite fitness facility, healthy snacks during the work day and health education programs.
The Non Profit Impact Award is presented to a 501(c)(3) organization that has demonstrated a significant impact on the community and the well-being of its citizens. The 2013 winner is The Healing Place. The Healing Place delivers a range of services, including a world class recovery program for struggling addicts and educational programs that help families and individuals recognize and cope with the realities of addiction.
The Very Small Business of the Year is presented to a company with 1-9 employees that exemplifies outstanding business and civic leadership. The 2013 winner is OPM Financial. OPM provides financial, accounting and management services to entrepreneurs, start-up businesses and transitional companies. Since 1992, OPM has assisted dozens of companies reach their potential as profitable ventures.
The Small Business of the Year is given to a small business with 10-100 employees that exemplifies outstanding business and civic leadership. The 2013 winner is Flavorman, an international leader in the beverage product development industry. The company takes a beverage concept from the early stages of product development through the final stages of production. For more than 20 years, Flavorman has provided its customers with innovative products, impeccable customer service and a proven ability to execute with measurable results.
Friday’s winners join the 70 previous Inc.credible Awards winners, most of whom are still growing and making contributions in the Louisville region.
