NKU entrepreneurship students earn national recognition

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (Nov. 21, 2013) – A team of entrepreneurship students from Northern Kentucky University earned the Best Chapter Business Award at the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO) National Conference in Chicago last month. The award honors the most creative, unique and successful student-run business among the 400 schools in attendance. Following an online submission process, only four teams were given the opportunity to present their company to the judges for the final round of the competition.

NKU students Michael Stubbs, Jason Hulett and Paul Kemp have developed their own line of apparel, called Punch Press Threads.

Michael Stubbs, Jason Hulett and Paul Kemp presented their student-designed apparel line, Punch Press Threads. Their brand showcases the result of mixing art and entrepreneurship. The team shared with judges their passion for the arts and how their brand is an active force on the NKU campus by successfully spreading entrepreneurship across disciplines to help acquire donations for student projects.

More than 1,200 students and faculty from across the country took part in the weekend-long conference that featured networking, learning and inspiration. Members of the organization were given the opportunity to meet fellow entrepreneuri

ally minded students and create meaningful connections to turn their ideas into a reality.

The conference offered a variety of student competitions, mentorships and workshops centered on helping students further their knowledge about starting their own companies and understanding the importance of networking. More than 80

different entrepreneurs shared their knowledge over the course of the weekend, including Norm Brodsky, columnist for Inc. magazine; David Marlett, executive director of the National Crowdfunding Association; and Chris Heivly, co-founder of Mapquest.

“To me, one of the coolest things was getting the chance to talk to some of my favorite speakers on an individual basis,” said Stubbs. “Attending the national conference has definitely been the highlight of my year.”

As for the future of Punch Press Threads, the company is planning the second iteration of its original designs by offering hoodies featuring new color schemes and preparing for next year’s T-shirt design competition. In the same spirit, the NKU CEO chapter is continuing its mission of sharing entrepreneurship across the campus by laying the groundwork for its upcoming event, Graffiti Fest, where local graffiti artists will showcase their talents in a constructive environment to raise money for charity.
