NKU students to unveil video game course project — Medieval Martian Massacre

Uses head-tracking and interactive physiology to integrate with gameplay

martiansHIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (April 29, 2015) —The Northern Kentucky University College of Informatics Advanced Digital Media Projects Spring-2015 class on Thursday will launch its course project — Medieval Martian Massacre.

Medieval Martian Massacre is a Microsoft Kinect-based game that uses head-tracking and interactive physiology to integrate with gameplay. The idea was conceived and created as a test bed for Kinect, head tracking, and Unity.

Currently in alpha, the game allows players to fight off alien hordes with a series of medieval weaponry, including a sword, hammer, spear, and crossbow. The player also has a shield in their left had to ward off enemy attacks. The player controls the right-hand weapons with Kinect Gestures, which can read the players movements and do things like throw the weapons distances, or make menu selections by gripping the hand.
