Baird receives honorary degree from University of the Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (April 30, 2012) — University of the Cumberlands honored Charles J. Baird on April 23 with a Doctor of Administration degree during the 53rd annual Honors Day ceremonies in the O. Wayne Rollins Center.

Baird is president of Baird and Baird, PSC, of Pikeville, a full-service law firm that has been practicing since 1947. He is a member of numerous professional and community organizations serving as chairman of Coal Operations and Associates, board member of Kentucky Coal Association, board member of Federation for American Coal Energy and Security, board member of Community Trust Bancorp, past member of Worker’s Compensation Board Nomination Commission, charter member of A.B. Chandler Foundation, and board member of Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Pikeville’s First Presbyterian Church and is in charge of the church’s participation in Meals on Wheels.

Charles Baird has received such recognitions as Distinguished Citizen Award from Pike County unit of Blue Grass Council Boy Scouts of America; Rotary Club International, Paul Harris Fellow; and Mining Lawyer of the Year for the 2011 edition of Kentucky’s Best Lawyers, among many others.
