Online employer survey to be used to create industry-recognized certification list for career planning

Survey conducted by Kentucky Workforce Innovation Board

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 17, 2016) — The Kentucky Workforce Innovation Board’s (KWIB) Business and Education Alignment Committee is asking employers to complete a new online survey about industry certifications that are important to them when searching for new employees or promoting employees from within. Surveys should be filled out by April 1.

7998db41-716a-41af-b706-02a8362354aeSurvey feedback will be used to align industry certifications available in career and technical education in Kentucky high schools with employer needs to fill skill gaps in Kentucky. KWIB plans to develop a valid industry-recognized certification list for Kentucky high school students to use in career planning.

“Kentucky is working to enhance our high school education system to align with real hiring opportunities directed by Kentucky’s employers,” said Melissa Aguilar, executive director of KWIB, an agency in the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. “Each year, high school students have the opportunity to enroll in career and technical education and we want to ensure that students graduate with the credentials and skills necessary to either go to work or go on to postsecondary education.”
