Nearly 90 new robots will help streamline the production of the next generation Chevy Corvette at the General Motors Bowling Green Assembly Plant, reports the Bowling Green Daily News.
Those robots have taken their places in the new $50 million shop where the body of the new Corvette will be assembled. A dozen or so local officials got a peek at the shop Tuesday.
But the wraps are still on what the new vehicle will look like or exactly when its production will begin, the paper says.

The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) has put a Winchester model 1892 rifle purportedly owned by William Anderson “Devil Anse” Hatfield on display at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in downtown Frankfort.
The story of the Hatfields and McCoys has enjoyed renewed interest lately, with the airing of a new retelling of the infamous feud on The History Channel.
The rifle likely belonged to “Devil Anse” Hatfield, patriarch of the clan famous for their feud with the McCoys. The artifact was donated to the KHS collections in 2008 by Dr. Glenn Marsh and Judy Marsh.

A week after the University of Kentucky laid off 1 percent of its employees, President Eli Capilouto called the cuts an unavoidable part of moving the university forward with goals to improve undergraduate education, build new classrooms and pay employees more, reports the Lexington Herald Leader.
In a campus-wide e-mail Wednesday afternoon, Capilouto released many more details about the need for layoffs, and apologized for campus-wide confusion over the layoffs.

Ford officials on Wednesday unveiled a reopened and revamped Ford Louisville Assembly Plant (LAP), which is producing the 2013 Ford Escape. Ford is ramping up operations at the plant, which soon will employ approximately 4,500 workers on three shift crews.
Company and state and local officials first announced in late 2010 that Ford would invest $600 million to transform LAP into the company’s most flexible high-volume plant in the world, resulting in a second shift and 1,800 new jobs at the plant. In fall 2011, Ford signed a new contract with the United Auto Workers Union, which brought a third shift and another 1,300 jobs to LAP.

Joy Global, a mining equipment manufacturer, plans to lay off 37 employees at its Lebanon plant, the Lexington Herald Leader reports.
The Milwaukee-based company disclosed the actions, which are expected to be taken by July 20, in a filing that government officials require businesses to make before large layoffs.

Kentucky’s gasoline tax will increase 2.1 cents per gallon July 1, meaning customers will pay the state nearly 30 cents for every gallon they pump, reports the Louisville Courier-Journal.
The automatic increase, which raises the state tax from 27.8 to 29.9 cents per gallon, is the result of a state law that ties Kentucky’s tax to the average wholesale price of gas.
