Danafilms is Adding More Space, New Jobs at Kentucky Plant

By wmadministrator

Danafilms Inc. is adding 50,000 s.f. to its plant in Franklin to make room for a new co-extrusion line and accommodate future growth.

Danafilms manufactures premium monolayer and coextruded barrier films for a wide variety of specialty applications and markets, including lawn and garden, pet food and supplies, food packaging, electronic packaging and industrial products such as films, tapes and release liners. The company is investing $7 million in the expansion project, which is expected to be complete before the end of the year. The expansion will create about 20 new jobs, bringing the facility’s total employment to 50.

“Adding this equipment is about redundancy,” said Aaron LaPointe, the co-extrusion technical manager at Danafilms. “This really allows us to cut the lead times for coextruded products. We do a great deal of custom work, tweaking the properties of the films. With a seven-layer coextrusion, we can provide very precise properties in the most cost-effective configuration possible and get the finished work to the customer much faster. This Windmoeller & Hoelscher line is a fantastic piece of equipment, and the new one has all the latest bells and whistles.”

The expansion is being built by Gray Construction, the Lexington-based company that built the original facility.
