Midway University jumps in U.S. News and World Report rankings

MIDWAY, Ky. — Midway University has jumped into the top 75 in the most recent U.S. News and World Report rankings. While still celebrating its record enrollment growth this fall, the institution received notice this week it had moved up in the U.S. News & World Report rankings to 73rd on the Top Regional Universities-South ranking.

In addition, the university was ranked 3rd in a new category — Top Performer in Social Mobility. This category recognizes how well colleges serve low-income students.

“We are honored by these newest rankings. They truly reflect the positive momentum our University is feeling on campus,” said Dr. John P. Marsden, president, Midway University. “We are pleased the ranking organization added the Top Performer in Social Mobility category,” said Marsden. “Our institution has a long history of working with students who have significant financial need and that is a challenge that hasn’t always been a consideration on the rankings scale. Our staff is dedicated to working with students and their families to ensure that financial need isn’t a barrier to higher education at Midway University. Once a member of our University community, we continue supporting our students through faculty advising, tutoring, career counseling, and a personalized education.”

The Top Regional Universities-South rankings are based on a variety of criteria including outcomes data such as retention and graduation rates, class size, and faculty resources. Social mobility measures how well schools graduated students who received federal Pell Grants, households with less than $50,000 annual income.

National rankings are one way that students narrow down their college choices.

“Being on these lists in favorable positions is helpful to Midway University in reaching potential students in their college search process,” said Marsden. “I applaud our entire staff and faculty for their continued dedication to serving our students so well.”

The rankings will be published and available in October in the “Best Colleges 2020” guidebook.
