Newell Rubbermaid to Build Ink Facility in Manchester

By wmadministrator

Newell Rubbermaid has acquired 60 acres in Manchester, Tenn., where it plans to build a new state-of-the-art ink manufacturing facility.
Design and testing of inks, ink manufacturing and storage of finished goods will be handled at the $12.5 million facility, which will supply the company’s nearby writing instrument manufacturing facilities in Tennessee as well as its operations in Europe, Latin America and Asia.

The company’s portfolio of brands includes Sharpie, Paper Mate, Waterman and Parker.

Newell Rubbermaid has long had a presence in middle and east Tennessee, where the company manufactures Sharpie brand markers and highlighters, as well as other office products. Officials with the Atlanta-based company say the Manchester site offered easy accessibility to its existing office products operations.

Newell Rubbermaid currently employs more than 1,700 people in Tennessee. The company’s existing ink facility in Shelbyville employs approximately 60 employees, who are expected to transfer to the new location in Manchester when it opens in late 2009. More jobs are expected to be added over the next three years.
