FRANKFORT, Ky. — Another Republican statewide official has announced he will run for governor of Kentucky in 2023. On Wednesday, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron filed his paperwork to join the race.
Cameron is the third Republican to announce his candidacy for the race as Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles launched his campaign last week and Kentucky Auditor Mike Harmon announced his intent last year.
Cameron was elected to the office of attorney general in 2019 after practicing law with Frost Brown Todd, LLC and serving as legal counsel to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. He also practiced law as an attorney for Stites and Harbison after starting his career serving as a law clerk to the Honorable Gregory Van Tatenhove, a United States District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Kentucky.
Many other names have also been rumored as potential candidates in the GOP primary. This week could see many other announcements.
Current Democratic Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has confirmed he is running for re-election.
