HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Northern Kentucky University Haile College of Business has entered a research collaboration with the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) that aims to increase financial literacy in primary and secondary education.

“We are excited for this important work and research collaboration with NEFE. At Haile, we are committed to improving financial literacy in our community. Our efforts will help improve how we teach personal finance and increase access to financial education,” noted Associate Dean Abdullah Al-Bahrani.

The research collaboration between Haile and NEFE will help design assessments for fourth- and eighth-graders, as well as high school seniors, to reflect the new national standards for financial literacy. The Haile College of Business will also create an evaluation to assist educators, policymakers and researchers assess financial education and knowledge.

“These assessments will offer important insight into measuring financial education effectiveness. While more learners have access to a quality financial education experience than in years past, significant disparities in equity and access remain critical, specifically in K-12 instruction,” says Billy J. Hensley, president and CEO of NEFE. “It is important to create assessment and evaluation tools that assure educators and advocates can better understand the outcomes of financial education coursework and programming on students.”

Haile College of Business was chosen for the collaboration due to its continued dedication and commitment towards increasing financial literacy in schools and in the community, as well as housing some of the leading experts in the areas of finance and economics.
