RICHMOND, Ky. — The Eastern Kentucky University School of Nursing announced a 100% pass rate in the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) by the latest Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) cohort.
“This accomplishment reinforces EKU’s commitment to meeting the needs of the commonwealth’s workforce. We’re producing highly skilled nursing professionals who are equipped to meet today’s healthcare challenges,” said EKU President David McFaddin. “A perfect pass rate demonstrates the quality and excellent education provided in our reputable program.”
The recent AASN cohort, which concluded its studies in May, consisted of eight students, all of whom successfully passed the NCLEX on their first attempt. The NCLEX is a standardized test to ensure graduates are ready to begin their careers in nursing.
“The School of Nursing faculty take great pride in our AASN and BSN graduates,” said Dr. Brooke Bentley, chair of EKU’s School of Nursing. “Our graduates are prepared to deliver quality, evidence-based nursing care. We are confident each graduate will make a significant impact in meeting the healthcare needs of our service region and the Commonwealth.”
EKU’s 100% pass rate stands out when compared to the average pass rate of Kentucky schools. According to the Kentucky Board of Nursing, the average pass rate for an associate degree in nursing was 76.9% in 2022.
Bentley attributed the achievement to hardworking students and excellent faculty. Engaging teaching methods and a three-day NCLEX review, offered by EKU to all students, also played a crucial role.
Assistant Professor Dr. Jennifer Merrick said the teaching methods in the last semester focused on interactive learning. Students participated in group discussions, case studies and content review games that encouraged critical thinking. Clinical assignments helped students apply what they had learned throughout the program to real-life settings.
