Settlement to lead to ticket refunds for canceled Louisville International Open

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 12, 2016) — Attorney General Andy Beshear and Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) CEO Steve Simon today announced that ticketholders of the canceled 2016 Louisville International Open will receive significant restitution.

The total amount to be refunded to consumers is nearly $465,000. WTA is refunding more than $451,300, and IMG Tickets will refund $12,890 in credit card and processing fees.

WTA worked with Beshear’s office after the tournament organizer canceled the planned tournament, a $250,000 WTA International event, and closed its doors. The Attorney General’s office is currently investigating the organizer.

According to the refund agreement, full refunds totaling nearly $95,750 will be given for 2,215 tickets sold to individuals, many who bought multiple tickets. Refunds range from $24 to $4,800 and include the event ticket price and the processing fees by IMG Tickets.

Fans who paid for “Founders Circle” memberships will share in a prorated amount of an estimated $362,690 that is anticipated to provide from 65 to 70 percent of the membership cost depending on the number of consumers who choose to participate in the settlement. An estimated 42 Founders Circle memberships were sold. The average Founders Circle cost is estimated at $13,000.

Beshear said ticketholders will receive a direct refund from IMG Tickets, who handled the online ticket sales for the event that was scheduled for mid-August.

Fans who purchased Founders Circle packages will receive a letter and claim form in the mail within 30 days from the Attorney General’s office. They will need to return the claim form to the office for a refund. Consumers who purchased Founders Circle memberships who do not receive a letter and form by Nov. 15 should contact the AG’s Office of Consumer Protection at 502-696-5389.

A segment of individual ticketholders who did not buy tickets through IMG will receive a letter in the mail from Beshear’s office and will need to return their claim form for a full refund. The total of this amount is $5,768.
