The 2010 BIO International Convention was held May 3-6 at McCormick Place in Chicago. The event was managed and produced by the Biotechnology Industry Organization, which represents 1,200-plus biotech-related entities in the United States and 30 foreign companies. Kentucky fielded a delegation comprised of political, economic development, entrepreneurial, corporate, professional and academic leaders, each representing an important segment of the state’s growing biotechnology industry. The four-day event presented special speakers, including former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, breakout sessions, company presentations, networking events and bio exhibits.

Gov. Steve Beshear hosted a reception at the Chicago InterContinental Hotel for biotech businesses conducting or interested in doing business in Kentucky. Stites & Harbison law firm sponsored the event.

Kentucky’s pavilion at McCormick Place, which had a very prominent location, featured booths for Commerce Lexington, University of Louisville, University of Kentucky, Kentucky Economic Development Cabinet’s Department of Commercialization and Innovation and numerous biotech companies doing business in Kentucky.
