City announces first-ever Imagine Lexington Week, Oct. 9 – 13

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The City of Lexington is offering several public input opportunities for their 2018 Comprehensive Plan— Imagine Lexington—by presenting the first-ever Imagine Lexington Week Oct. 9 – 13 and Imagine Out Loud on Oct. 18.

During Imagine Lexington Week, City Planning staff will be setup at well-known events throughout town, such as the Central Bank Thursday Night Live!, to engage with citizens and gather input on the city’s Comprehensive Plan. Engagement at every event will be about a different aspect of the plan such as jobs, the environment, neighborhoods and urban/rural balance.

“We are excited to meet with people during this weeklong event to gather input for this critical plan,” said Jim Duncan, Director of Planning. “We hope to hear from a diverse range of voices to create a plan that is forward-thinking and truly representative of the community.”

Imagine Out Loud will be a stand-alone event hosted by the city at the Lexington Senior Center, and is the finale to Imagine Lexington Week. The event is open to all ages and will feature live music, games and refreshments. The public is invited to review any and all aspects of the Comprehensive Plan, interact with Planning staff, ask questions and offer ideas.

“We are providing an opportunity for the community to come together,” said Chris Woodall, Manager of Long Range Planning. “This will not be your typical public meeting, and that is by design. We want to create an atmosphere that encourages participation, questions and education, and one that embodies the visionary spirit of the Plan.”

Planning staff will incorporate the feedback received from all Imagine Lexington Week events and present the results during a formal public hearing before the Planning Commission later this year.

The Comprehensive Plan

The Comprehensive Plan, which outlines Lexington’s growth and development strategy and vision for the next 20 years, is a critical document that is reviewed and updated every five years with input from stakeholders throughout the city.

A first draft of the plan has been completed and can be viewed at www.imaginelexington.com. Individuals that are unable to attend any of the public forums, can submit their feedback to [email protected].
