Was first African American president of the Louisville Bar Association
FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 28, 2016) â J. Michael Brown has been named deputy attorney general, Attorney General Andy Beshear announced today.
âJ. Michael is a steadfast leader who has devoted his career to protecting Kentuckyâs families,â Beshear said. âHis experience and dedication will help our office carry on the important work of preventing child abuse, protecting seniors, addressing substance abuse and seeking justice for victims of rape.â
Brown served as secretary of the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet for eight years. He is a former district court judge and first assistant commonwealthâs attorney in Jefferson County.
Brown also served as a law director for the city of Louisville, an assistant commonwealthâs attorney, and also served on the board of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority for 12 years, including six years as the boardâs chair.
Brown was elected the first African American president of the Louisville Bar Association. He chaired the Kentucky Bar Associationâs Task Force on Minorities and is a former member of the associationâs ethics committee.
He is a military veteran and received his J.D. from the University of Louisville School of Law.
In the interim, Brown will continue to head the Attorney Generalâs Criminal Branch.
