FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 6, 2015) — The National Farm to School Network is accepting applications from eligible schools or school districts in Kentucky for $5,000 mini-grants to help jump start new farm-to-school activities or ramp up existing programs.
“I encourage Kentucky schools to apply for these mini-grants to enable their students to grow up healthy and eat more local Kentucky Proud food,” Agriculture Commissioner James Comer said.
Grants can be used for local food for tastings, new processing equipment, hosting events, and building school gardens.
All non-profit schools and school districts in Kentucky are eligible to apply. Deadline for applications is Monday, June 15. The Seed Change application and more information can be found at farmtoschool.org/seedchange.

Seed Change will award up to 100 mini-grants in Kentucky, Louisiana, and Pennsylvania. Seed Change is an 18-month, $1.5-million project funded by the Walmart Foundation addressing barriers to farm to school in states that are ripe for significant growth. The mini-grants will support a wide variety of activities including school garden activities, food and nutrition education, kitchen equipment to enable utilization of local foods, and food service staff training at emerging farm-to-school sites.
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture and the National Farm to School Network will provide statewide outreach efforts, trainings, and technical assistance to create a robust farm-to-school network for long-term program sustainability.
