Bowling Green receives budget award for fifth straight year

From Government Finance Officers Association

BOWLING GREEN, Ky, (Jan. 20, 2017) — The City of Bowling Green recently received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the FY17 budget from the Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada (GFOA). This is the fifth consecutive year that the City has received this award.

This award represents a significant achievement by Bowling Green.  It reflects the commitment of our governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:

  • A policy document
  • A financial plan
  • An operations guide
  • A communications device

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving over 19,000 government finance professionals throughout North America.  The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
