Democratic House Leader Rocky Adkins announces he will run for governor in 2019

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Democratic House Minority Leader Rocky Adkins on Wednesday announced he will run for governor in 2019 at an event in Morehead, Ky.

Adkins, who has served in the state House in the 99th District since he was first elected in 1987 and has been a member of Democratic leadership since 2003, becomes the second Democrat to announce his candidacy as he joins Attorney General Andy Beshear in the 2019 race. More Democrats in the state are also rumored to be considering entering the race.

At the campaign launch event on Wednesday, Adkins announced he has selected Stephanie Horne, a member of the Jefferson County Board of Education, as his running mate. Read more about his announcement here.

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin has also announced he will run for re-election in 2019. No other Republicans have announced their intent to run.
