GLI appoints new director of marketing and communications

Ameerah Palacios

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) has announced the hiring of Ameerah Palacios as director of marketing and communications. A Louisville native, Palacios will be an asset to the GLI team as an award-winning marketer with an extensive background in news media as a former business reporter, talk show host and TV news producer.

Palacios will lead teams to develop and implement GLI’s digital and social media strategy, advertising trade, video design and production, as well as serve as the point of contact for media relations. She will also work with senior leadership to elevate the GLI brand and serve as executive editor for GreaterLouisville.com and GLI publications.

“Ameerah is a welcome addition to Greater Louisville Inc. and we welcome her home,” said Shawna Burton, vice president of Engagement and Organizational Development. “Ameerah’s strategic mindset, business journalism and career academy marketing experience puts her in the unique position to document the progress of the Louisville region’s emerging growth and innovation, as well as increase engagement with stakeholders.”

Previously, Palacios worked with Metro Nashville Public Schools as a public relations and marketing leader responsible for communication projects, strategy, marketing for the Academies of Nashville, research, media relations, website management and social media. A few of Palacios’ awards among the many include being recognized with the 2007 WKU President’s Award for Diversity and the 2008 U.S. Small Business Administration Kentucky Small Business Journalist of the Year. In 2013, Palacios earned the accreditation in public relations, the PR industry’s highest credential and mark of distinction. This year, she will be honored as a National School Public Relations Association 35 under 35 at its annual conference in Washington, DC this summer.

An avid educator, she is an active member in the Public Relations Society of America, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the National Black MBA Association.
