Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation receives anonymous $100,000 donation

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation has received an anonymous donation of $100,000 to establish a new endowment. These funds will directly benefit the Oncology Palliative Care Program and Diabetes Care Program at CHI Saint Joseph Health.

“The endowment was named the ‘Brother Andre Fund,’ in recognition of the anonymous donor’s strong Catholic faith and desire to further our mission,” said Leslie Smart, CFRE, president, Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation. “With this generous gift, we can expand our services and provide an even higher quality of care in the Lexington community.”

The Brother Andre Fund will create education programs about palliative care for staff, terminally ill cancer patients and their loved ones. It will also support workforce development for palliative care, which will support both inpatient and outpatient clinic patients. The goal of palliative care is to improve the quality of life for patients who are facing problems associated with life-threatening illnesses.

The fund will also enhance Type 1 diabetes education at CHI Saint Joseph Health by connecting staff, patients and their families with vital information about the disease. Diabetes is a major issue facing Kentucky; more than 450,000 Kentuckians are currently living with the disease, according to the 2019 Kentucky Diabetes Report. Continued education will help those affected manage their day-to-day care.
