U.S. extends individual tax filing deadline to July 15

President Donald Trump has ordered the national income tax filing day be extended to July 15, 2020.

The move was announced by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and adds to the list of emergency measures being taken at the federal level to deal with COVID-19 and the financial situation surrounding the pandemic.

“All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties,” Mnuchin wrote in a Tweet announcing the move.

The new date is three months later than the normal deadline for Americans to send in their returns.
