Bottom Line: Fraudulent letters being sent to Kentuckians about unemployment insurance benefits

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Many Kentuckians have been receiving fraudulent letters stating they are entitled to unemployment insurance benefits with a dollar amount attached to it made to look as though it is coming from the state’s offices.

The governor’s office has confirmed with the Kentucky Chamber these letters are not coming from the state and is encouraging individuals to report these issues.

If you receive a letter or suspect you have had a fraudulent UI claim, email that information to [email protected].

This issue is not new to Kentucky or across the nation with other states.  Fraud makes up about 35% of UI pandemic claims. The federal government over the past six months has provided nearly $200 million dollars to states to help fight fraud measures and the Kentucky Attorney General has a fraud identity theft page located on their website for those that need additional help.
