An Oregon food processing company has purchased the East Bernstadt property and facilities once occupied by Gordon Food Service with plans to convert the building into a canning facility.

Truitt Brothers Inc. will renovate the existing 288,000-square-foot facility to accommodate the needs of the canning plant. According to local reports, the company expects to hire more than 360 employees at hourly wages ranging from $10.76 to $18. The company has not yet determined when the plant will be operational.

Truitt Brothers, Inc. was founded in 1973 and has been recognized as one of the fastest growing privately held businesses in Oregon. According to the company’s Web site, Truitt Brothers was the first company in the nation to earn the “Food Processor Certification” from Food Alliance, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to certifying environmentally sound, socially responsible farms, ranchers and processors to support sustainable agriculture.
