Louisville-area home sales in May up 17 percent over 2012

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 19, 2013) — May residential sales in the Louisville-area market climbed 17.26 percent over May 2012, reported the Greater Louisville Association of Realtors (GLAR).

In May, improvements in the average selling price and sold volume for the GLAR reporting area were widespread, with gains in Jefferson, Oldham and Bullitt counties.

“It’s obvious that buyers and sellers are engaged in the market and are taking advantage of continued low interest rates and fresh inventory,” said GLAR President Paul Ogden.

Jefferson County

Last month, 985 homes were sold, an increase of 14.67 percent over May 2012, when 859 were sold. The average selling price in May 2013 was $183,613, compared to $167,461 in May 2012.

As of May 31, there were nearly 4,000 active listings in the Jefferson County market, up 4.76 percent over May 2012.

Home sales from January to May increased 16 percent over 2012, and the average sales price rose 4.1 percent.

Oldham County

More than 100 homes were sold last month (101), up 26.25 percent over May 2012, when 80 homes were sold. The average selling price increased 9.9 percent to $266,357.

As of May 31, there were 406 active listings in the Oldham County market, up 7.41 percent over May 2012.

Home sales from January to May increased nearly 12 percent over 2012, and the average sales price rose 4.46 percent.

Bullitt County

Last month, 87 homes were sold, an increase of 27.94 percent over May 2012, when 68 were sold. The average selling price in May 2013 was $137,662, compared to $153,179 in May 2012.

As of May 31, there were 447 active listings in the Oldham County market, down 1.76 percent compared to May 2012.

Home sales from January to May increased nearly 13.4 percent over 2012, and the average sales price rose 4.36 percent.
