Sporting art auction set for Wednesday at Keeneland

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 19, 2013) – The inaugural sporting art auction featuring fine sporting art, American paintings and sculpture from renowned artists will take place Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Keeneland Sales Pavilion.

art auctionDoors will open on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged and can be completed online (Purchaser Registration Form) or in person in the sales pavilion. Keeneland requests that bidders who plan to attend the auction arrive early to pick up their paddle. The Limestone Café in the sales pavilion will be open throughout the day for auction goers.

The public is invited to view the artwork today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the sales pavilion. The catalog is available at thesportingartauction.com.

Keeneland and Cross Gate Gallery of Lexington will present the sporting art auction as part of a new collaboration between the world’s largest Thoroughbred auction house and the country’s premier gallery of fine sporting art and contemporary British figurative painting.

Among the 174 high-quality lots to be offered are pieces by Sir John Frederick Herring Sr., Sir Alfred J. Munnings, Edward Troye, Franklin Voss, Peter Curling and Andre Pater. The auction also includes works by three generations of Wyeths – grandfather N.C., father Andrew, and son Jamie – and American painter Mary Cassatt.
