Agency hosts summit in conjunction with launch of Kentucky Creative Industry report
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 24, 2014) — Registration is open for the Kentucky Creative Industry Summit presented by the Kentucky Arts Council in conjunction with the Dec. 3 launch of the agency’s inaugural Kentucky Creative Industry Report.
The arts council event includes an overview of the new report that describes the economic impact of the arts industry sector, as well as its essential convergence with other Kentucky industries. Lt. Gov. Crit Luallen, former secretary of the Kentucky Tourism Cabinet and former commissioner of the Kentucky Department of the Arts, will offer opening remarks at the event.
The summit illustrates the rising role of Kentucky’s creative industry through the primary lenses of creative enterprises, creative place making and creative convergence. It will be at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts in Louisville. Seating is limited, and registration is required.
“We have been working on this study for more than a year and are thrilled we will soon be able to share the results publicly,” said Lori Meadows, arts council executive director. “This study supplies data that has been so desperately needed in Kentucky. It is an excellent baseline assessment of the Commonwealth’s vibrant and growing creative industry.”
The day includes an overview of the new report, and presentations and panels featuring local, state and national experts on topics including:
- Creative enterprises – jobs created through the arts and the economic impact of the arts community.
- Creative place making – how vibrant communities attract residents and desirable industry by fostering a creative workforce.
- Creative convergence – how other industries benefit from creative minds.
Elected officials and policymakers, business, industry and corporate leaders, economic development boards and officials, Main Street and Renaissance directors, chambers of commerce, artist small business owners and others interested in economic development through the arts are encouraged to register for the free event.
The Kentucky Creative Industry Report was commissioned last year by the Kentucky Arts Council and was conducted by Mt. Auburn Associates, an economic development analysis and strategy firm in Somerville, Mass., that has worked at the forefront of the creative economic development field for the past 10 years.
