Kentucky’s out-of-home care at all-time high
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 23, 2015) — Maryhurst will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting on Thursday for ‘Madeline’s Cottage’, a facility designed to provide housing and treatment space for up to 14 adolescent girls. The opening culminates a 3-year comprehensive campaign that raised nearly $7 million.
Kentucky has one of the nation’s highest rates of substantiated child abuse and neglect. Currently, an all-time high of 7,684 children are in out-of-home care. In 2012 in Jefferson County 2,579 children were abused or neglected.
Madeline’s Cottage is named after long-time board member Madeline Abramson, wife of Jerry Abramson, former Louisville Mayor and Lt. Gov. and current Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for President Obama.
