UPIKE College of Optometry hires senior clinical instructor

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 6, 2016) — Gregory S. Moore, O.D has been named senior clinical instructor of optometry at the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Optometry.

Moore, a native of Appalachia, graduated from West Virginia State University with a bachelor of science degree in biology and received a doctor of optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis.

He has a vast base of practice experiences ranging from serving as optometrist for the Chicago Cubs to owning and working as clinical director of the West Virginia Laser Eye Center LLC. Along with four ophthalmologists in two locations in West Virginia and one in Kentucky, Moore provided LASIK as well as premium intra-ocular lens implants for cataract surgical patients through the West Virginia Laser Eye Center LLC.

Moore has been involved extensively with the use of platelet rich plasma in the treatment of ocular surface disease. As a result of his research and clinical experience, Moore holds multiple patents and has patents pending and shared his expertise in textbooks and numerous peer reviewed journal articles. He has lectured extensively to both ophthalmologists and optometrists throughout a majority of the U.S. and various countries on four continents.

Moore has also been active with the regulation of optometric licensure for more than 10 years, having served two terms as president of the West Virginia Board of Optometry. He currently serves as vice president and president-elect of the Association of Regulatory Boards of Optometry, an international provider of regulatory oversight services for its member boards.

Licensed to practice optometry in West Virginia and South Carolina, Moore is also fully licensed in Kentucky including minor and laser surgical privileges.

As part of the faculty at KYCO, Moore will be involved in the development of the optometric clinical methods course, the optical clinical methods laboratory and the laser ophthalmic surgical procedures curriculum. In addition, he will be providing clinical care and student instruction and supervision throughout the KYCO eye clinics system.
