Online license plate renewal now available

Multiple plates can be renewed at once

FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 12, 2016) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has launched a new online application that allows motorists to renew standard, specialty and personalized Kentucky license plates. The application is easy to use and is built in a mobile-friendly framework so motorists can access the renewal application from any device.

“The cabinet is pleased to expand the number of license plate renewals we offer online, as it provides more convenience to Kentucky motorists and enhances our efficiency,” said John-Mark Hack, Commissioner of the Department of Vehicle Regulation. “We look forward to making this service available to all Kentuckians through our partnership with county clerks all across the state.”

A motorist who wishes to renew their license plate online simply needs to enter the vehicle title number and license plate number associated with the plate along with his or her payment information. After online renewal completion, registration credentials are mailed to the motorist’s current address. Most Kentucky counties are participating in the online renewal system, although a small number have yet to adopt it.

License plates for multiple vehicles can be renewed in one transaction, as long as the license plates are all issued in the same county.

The application was built at no-cost for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet through a public-private partnership with Frankfort-based Kentucky Interactive, LLC.
