Downtown First Friday Trolley Hop set for July 6

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 25, 2012) — The next Republic Bank First Friday Trolley Hop will be conducted in downtown Louisville on Friday, July 6, from 5 to 11 p.m.

The trolleys will take participants to various art galleries, restaurants, and shops along the Main and Market Street corridors. Free parking is available on the street after 6 p.m. or at Slugger Field, Main Street at Jackson and the 4th St. Live! garage after 6 p.m. For additional information or to view a map of the trolley route and parking options, visit www.ldmd.org or email [email protected].

Special events scheduled during the Republic Bank First Friday Trolley Hop on July 6 are listed below, and to see the full list of Trolley Hop members, visit www.firstfridaytrolleyhop.com.

Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, located at 715 W. Main Street, will host a free opening reception from 5 to 9 p.m. for both the “Holler’s and Harvest” and “Swimming Hole” exhibitions.To coincide with the theme of “Holler’s and Harvest,” patrons can enjoy fresh produce vendors, live traditional music, and other surprises.

Paul Paletti Gallery, located at 713 E Market Street, will host “With Child,” a dynamic exhibit of works by Howard Schatz. Works from the exhibit are included in a book by the same name, which is the 18th of Schatz’s work.

Flame Run, now located in the Glassworks building at 815 W. Market Street, will host an opening reception beginning at 5 p.m. (with a demonstration at 6 p.m.) for the work of Jason Chakravarty, a versatile mixed media artist whose work often includes a signature feature — an astronaut dressed for space travel.

Pyro Gallery, located at 624 W Main St, #100F, will host the opening/artist reception from 6 to 9 p.m. of the gallery’s first juried exhibition challenging Kentuckiana artists to visually portray the Human Condition, 2012. Twenty-three artists were selected regionally, from Indianapolis to Lexington to Elizabethtown, working in painting, mixed media, photography and sculpture.

Zephyr Gallery, located at 610 East Market Street, will host PRESSURE, an art exhibition produced by The Ground Floor Gallery for each room of the Zephyr Gallery building. Each room reverberates with pressures inherent in our existence – physical, mental, societal, and economic. Original soundtracks by Alex Ferguson-Bell of OK Deejays will play during the opening reception on July 6 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The First Friday Trolley Hop was established in 2001 and has been going strong for more than 10 years. The Republic Bank First Friday Trolley Hop is conducted on the first Friday of each month, rain or shine, and the trolleys are free and run until 11 p.m., although most galleries close at 9 p.m. For more information, visit www.ldmd.org or call 1-502-583-1671.
