Storms in Pike County knock out power to 10,000 residents, several cooling stations

Storms Friday night left 10,000 without power in Pike County and is affecting operations of some cooling stations opened for relief during the current 100-plus-degree weather, Pike County Judge-Executive Wayne Rutherford’s office said.

The county is working to meeting cooling center demand, which will now be increased since many residents are without air conditioning.

Tthe Mouthcard and Phelps Community Centers, which were to be cooling stations, are without power. Most of the Sidney Canada area is without power and once it is restored, the Pike County Government will take a large generator to Feds Creek to supply power to the center. Until then, county officials are asking people to use the ones that currently have power.

The power outages are widespread but sporadic and crews are working to get the power restored, and they are doing do at this time.
