Louisville’s Director of Performance Improvement to increase city accountability, efficiency

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 18, 2012) – Mayor Greg Fischer announced today that he’s hired Theresa Reno-Weber as the city’s first Director of Performance Improvement, a position designed to help bring the best of private sector accountability, transparency and efficiency to the government — and ultimately create a culture of continuous improvement that will save taxpayer dollars.

Reno-Weber most recently worked with McKinsey & Company, a top-tier management consultant firm that works with businesses and governments across the globe. She has worked with Fortune 100 companies, government agencies and non-profits across the U.S., Europe and the Middle East. Reno-Weber is a former Lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard, where she served for 10 years before earning a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

“Theresa understands government and knows the private sector – and she knows how to look for methods to make our city operations more efficient and effective,” Fischer said. “At a time when city government is facing significant budget pressures, it’s more important than ever to leverage global best practices to ensure that every dollar of taxpayer money is being spent wisely.”

One of Reno-Weber’s first projects will be to help design and implement LouieStat, a database that will allow city managers and leaders to use data to examine trends and improve performance. LouieStat is modeled after Maryland’s StateStat, which has generated substantial service improvements, while reducing costs. She will also oversee the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the city.

Reno-Weber is a 2011 Focus Louisville graduate, a board member of the Louisville Film Society, a member of Greater Louisville Outstanding Women (GLOW) and a member of the Louisville Mothers of Twins Club.

She competes in marathons and enjoys traveling.
