Sunrise Children’s Services, Kentucky’s largest private child services provider, has announced the addition of three members to its board of directors as the nonprofit grows and adapts to the changing demands of caring for children in crisis.
Sunrise’s newest board members as of January 2018 include:
Billy Lyons is currently corporate counsel at Conduent Incorporated in Lexington, Ky. He previously served as corporate counsel at Appalachian Regional Healthcare, Inc. Lyons serves as life group teacher for kindergarten and co-chairman of the personnel committee of Porter Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington. He has been married to Dr. Andrea Lyons for 15 years and they have three children. Originally from Muhlenberg County, he and his wife moved to the Lexington area to attend the University of Kentucky.
“As an adoptive parent and Christian, the Sunrise mission to care for hurting children and families speaks directly to my heart,” Lyons said. “A personal goal of mine is to partner with Sunrise to further meet its mission, vision, and operational goals to better impact our state and its hurting families and children.”
Dr. David Pinkston, DVM, is a practicing veterinarian at Ashland Animal Clinic in Ashland, Ky. He is chairman of the board and co-owner of Advanced Veterinary Services, a seven-practice corporation in the Tri-State area. Dr. Pinkston is also a deacon at Rose Hill Baptist Church in Ashland, and is serving his community as chairman of the board for the Boyd County Health Department.
“Being on the Sunrise board is meaningful to me because many children do not come from, or even know an example of, a loving home. Furthermore, abuse and neglect is rampant in these types of domestic situations,” said Pinkston. “I believe showing these children the love that Christ holds for them is the single best way to improve their lives, and we are the hands that Jesus uses to reveal His love. I hope and pray that showing these children we love them will also show them Christ loves them.”
Andy Weeks, of Louisville, Ky., is a director of information security at Humana Inc. He has experience in multiple business areas, including executive management, entrepreneurship, information technology and security, strategic planning and business development. Mr. Weeks is a longtime member of Hurstbourne Baptist Church where he serves in the worship ministry, as a Sunday school teacher, and as a deacon, in addition to various associational activities. He enjoys spending time with his family, home improvement, golf, and reading (and recently podcasts) on a multitude of diverse subjects.
“I have seen firsthand the joys, but also daily struggles of dear friends who became foster parents and ultimately the forever family for a pair of children, and how God worked miracles in each of their lives,” said Weeks. “Although we are called to serve all, in particular we are called to seek justice for the weak and the fatherless, and rescue the weak and the needy among us (Psalm 82:3-4). The mission of Sunrise is to be the practical outworking of this command, and I am so humbled to be a part of that.”
