Kentucky Health Cooperative and UK HealthCare announce strategic partnership

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 2, 2013) — Nonprofit health insurance carrier Kentucky Health Cooperative Inc. announced Wednesday an exclusive clinical provider partnership with UK HealthCare, the University of Kentucky’s healthcare system.

The agreement is bringing a statewide network of high-level, accessible clinicians to Kentuckians residing in every one of the commonwealth’s 120 counties for Kentucky residents who will enroll in a Kentucky Health Cooperative health insurance plan, said Janie Miller, chief executive officer of Kentucky Health Cooperative.

UK HealthCare, representing multiple locations across Kentucky, includes hospitals, clinics, outreach locations and patient care services. Kentucky Health Cooperative offers health insurance coverage to individuals and families and to employees of businesses employing 2-50 full-time equivalent employees.

There are more than 1,000 clinicians affiliated with UK HealthCare. Miller said the collaboration will significantly benefit Kentuckians who seek not only advanced medicine, but also will help those who require rural health care.

The partnership is impactful not only because of the number of clinicians, Miller noted, but also because, “UK HealthCare provides a broad range of advanced subspecialty care, meeting the needs of Kentuckians who require the expertise of these specialists.

“We look forward to teaming up with some of the nation’s top clinicians and researchers as well as with community providers dedicated to the delivery of well-integrated health services at the community level,” Miller said.
