Former Lexington Legends player named 2019 manager

Brooks Conrad

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The 2018 South Atlantic League Champion Lexington Legends will welcome a new manager for the 2019 season, along with many familiar faces on the field staff as the Kansas City Royals today announced their 2019 minor league staff assignments.

Former Major Leaguer and past Legends infielder Brooks Conrad has been named manager of the Lexington Legends. The 2019 season will be Brooks’ second season managing in the Kansas City Royals organization, having spent the 2018 season as manager for the Rookie level Burlington Royals.

After being selected in the eighth round of the 2001 Draft by the Houston Astros, Conrad played in 38 games for the Lexington Legends in 2003. Conrad would make his MLB debut in 2008 and go on to spend six years in the Major Leagues with the Oakland Athletics (2008), Atlanta Braves (2009-2011), Toronto Blue Jays (2012), Milwaukee Brewers (2012), Tampa Bay Rays (2012) and most recently, the San Diego Padres in 2014.

“The Legends are thrilled to welcome former Lexington Legend, Brooks Conrad to the Bluegrass,” said Legends President/CEO Andy Shea. “We were very fortunate to have a great coaching staff in 2018 who brought the championship trophy to Lexington and we can’t wait to defend that title.”

The Legends will have several key field staff returning. Pitching coach Mitch Stetter returns to Lexington for his fourth season with the Legends, while hitting coach Jesus Azuaje also returns for his third season with the Legends and fifth in the Royals organization. Bench coach Glenn Hubbard will return for his sixth straight season with the team.

The Legends will welcome certified athletic trainer Danny Accola in his third season with the Royals organization after spending the last two with Burlington. Strength and conditioning coach Tyler Burks will be in his first season with the Royals organization.

After spending two seasons with the Legends as manager and leading the Legends to their second SAL Championship in history, Scott Thorman has been promoted to manager for the Wilmington Blue Rocks, Advanced A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.

Opening Day 2019 will be April 4 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark versus the Delmarva Shorebirds, affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Ticket packages start at just $96 and are available now by calling the Legends Box Office at (859) 422-7867 or visiting lexingtonlegends.com.
