LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Dr. Kimberly Daugherty, an assistant dean and professor at the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, has been elected to a leadership position with the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).
Daugherty has been elected chair of the AACP Assessment Special Interest Group (SIG). At Sullivan, she is a professor and assistant dean of Academic Affairs and Assessment in the Department of Clinical and Administrative Sciences.
Founded in 1900, AACP is the national organization representing pharmacy education in the United States. The AACP’s mission is to lead and partner with its members in advancing pharmacy education, research, scholarship, practice and service to improve societal health.
The mission of the SIG is to ensure that the unique planning, learning and networking needs of AACP members are effectively met through SIG programs, projects and leadership development opportunities.
“This election means a lot to me as it shows how much I have grown in the area of assessment and the fact that my colleagues recognize this growth and are willing to allow me to lead this important Special Interest Group,” Daugherty said. “This election will allow me to work with assessment experts across the nation. I feel this shows the national representation that the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences has achieved.”
Dr. Cindy Stowe, dean of the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, said Daugherty is accomplished in the area of assessment and evaluation and provides excellent leadership in these areas for the school.
“She contributes on a national level and election to this post will serve Kim’s professional growth and lead to additional opportunities for her to garner within and beyond AACP,” Stowe said. “I’m proud of Kim’s success and recognize that her role in the life and development of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is significant, particularly within the PharmD program but also with the physician assistant program. Kim is tenacious and is willing to do the heavy lifting to raise the expectations and outcomes for the college.”
Daugherty was elected to a three-year term. The first year is chair-elect, followed by a year as chair and then past-chair in the third year. As chair, her duties will include setting agendas for and presiding at meetings of the Assessment Special Interest Group; overseeing spending; participating in long-term planning; and appointing members to standing committees.
Daugherty, who has been with Sullivan for 11 years, has lived most of her life in Louisville. She holds a B.S. chemistry from Milligan College in Tennessee, a Pharm.D. from The University of Kentucky and completed her Pharmacy Practice and Ambulatory Care Residency also at UK.
